By the Spirit of God and sacred anointing oil: Exodus 30:22-25 gives us the Lord’s recipe for sacred anointing oil. It contains five ingredients.

Liquid Myrrh symbolizes purity and meekness. Repentance, forgiveness, submission, move, God calls you to a higher purpose, there is no room for jealousy or bitterness. (Ephesians 5:1-5, Mark 11:25)

Fragrant Cinnamon symbolizes sweetness and uprightness. The tree grows very straight while other trees are crooked. Repent of your wickedness. How you stand matters. Standing on the truth, standing for what’s right, but not judging others. To walk in God’s anointing you must stand upright. Cinnamon is the pleasing nature of offerings to God and in Songs 4:14 it is a very precious spice.

Fragrant Calamus symbolizes worship and humility. The perfume of this reed grows in the swamp. You know it’s ready for harvest when the head of the reed is filled with oil and bent over. Selflessness, we can’t be righteous while being deceived by self-righteousness. None of us has the right to hold on to unforgiveness. (Luke 7:44-50, Matthew 18:1-5)

Cassia symbolizes process and cleansing. It is an herb. These roots grow deep, in the deep is darkness, as your roots grow deeper. We think in plants, God thinks in seeds. We think in fruits, God thinks in roots. God will process us to be prepared for calling. Seeds must die to grow roots. Don’t worship the seed. Trust His process, don’t rush it. (Psalm 1:1-3, John 15:5, Malachi 3:2)

Olive oil symbolizes crushing and the Holy Spirit. Olive oil is made up from crushed olives. Jesus hung on the cross and Isaiah 53:5 says “He was crushed for our iniquities…” I find it interesting that the word Gethsemane means oil press. Reconciliation, healing, victory, peace, on the cross with Jesus.

Be the Olive

Olive trees can live for a thousand years. Olive trees have adapted to survive in harsh environments, such as rocky areas, and are resistant to pests, drought, and flooding. But first, olives must be shaken from the tree. You might feel like everything familiar has been shaken from you. Even the feeling of familiarity is removed. “Don’t be afraid.” Salvation is free, but the anointing will cost you everything. Have hope, rejoice and be glad.

Share the Oil

The Bible does encourage us to use physical oil:

James 5:15 (NIV)
¹⁵ Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.

Luke 10:34 (NIV)
³⁴ He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him.

1 Kings 1:39 (NIV)
Zadok the priest took the horn of oil from the sacred tent and anointed Solomon. Then they sounded the trumpet and all the people shouted, “Long live King Solomon!”

The entire process of making the Lord’s sacred anointing oil involves our continually giving prayer and praise. It’s just oil until we pour in our love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility, self control.

Exodus 30:32-33 warns us to not anoint anyone else but the priest and the most holy parts of the tabernacle (Exodus 30:26-29). However, under the new covenant, you and I are the royal priesthood in Christ Jesus (1 Peter 2:9), and Jesus tells us to ‘go and do likewise’ (Luke 10:37). I am a member of a royal family. I am a member of a royal priesthood in the order of Melchizedek (Hebrews 7:17, Psalm 110:4). I am a child of God. I am a royal priest. And so are you! Seek a fresh anointing from the Holy Spirit.

¹⁰ But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.
¹² The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
¹³ Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.
¹⁴ They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;

Isaiah 10:27 (NKJV)
²⁷ It shall come to pass in that day That his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, And his yoke from your neck, And the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil.

Prayer: Holy are we, sanctified and unified with Christ. For You so love the world, all the glory is Yours. May the fresh fire and fresh anointing from God fall upon us, open the wells and soak in His oils of joy. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
