Here is my analogy. Most of us who drive have a natural tendency to slow down or brake when there is a police car is in view. When we see a police car or emergency lights, we respond.

Intentionally or subconsciously, it probably happens to most of us. Even if you’re not speeding or guilty of any violation, you might slow down out of respect, courtesy, safety or a million sincere reasons. You might say a prayer for the police officer, emergency worker or a person of interest they might contact.

We need to get to a place where we drive around as if a police car is in view at all times, omnipresent. No matter where a person goes, they cannot escape God’s Spirit or presence (Psalm 139:8).

We shouldn’t speak to the cashier at the store, a stranger, any differently than we would speak to a pastor or a spouse or a child. We should not act or speak differently, no matter who the audience is or where we are. We should not go to church pretending to be one way, then come home to act a different way. Church is a place to lay down the world, and not to pick it back up again when you leave. Those who worship God must worship in spirit and truth (John 4:24).

“Adonai El Roi” is Hebrew for “the Lord, the God who sees me” (Genesis 16:13). God knows your heart, He knows your thoughts, He knows the words you speak and don’t speak, and He’s known you since the beginning. Without God, nothing was made that has been made (John 1:3). God knows every secret. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart (1 Samuel 16:7).
