God wants to remind you today that the same God who knows you, having witnessed every wrong you’ve ever done, also has the ability to make you forget the negative and hurtful things in your life. The grace of God can overcome their power to haunt you or hold you captive.
God is the God of Manasseh, the God who can make us forget.
If you are paralyzed by your past, if Satan is destroying your gifts and your calling by his incessant replaying of old events and memories, you’re actually being hit by a double whammy. The original damage in the past is one thing— but now you’re letting yourself be hurt and sidetracked again by the memory of what happened.
The ugly memories are like chains around them. We should not be ignorant of Satan’s devices, and these ugly memories are one of the main weapons in his arsenal.
If you live in that hurt, if those thoughts play over and over, you will be paralyzed by them. Every time the Holy Spirit nudges you to step out in faith and do something God wants you to do, this strange bondage to the past will hold you back from God’s best for your life.
The truth will set you free. Render these hindering memories to God. He already knows the truth. Surrender them to Him. Lay it down and don’t pick it up again. Forgive yourself and others, and move along.
Do you believe God can set you free, or are you going to keep being a victim of your past? God is the God of Manasseh. He can make you forget. Approach his throne of grace boldly and ask him for that grace to help you right where you need it.
Genesis 41:51 (AMPC)
And Joseph called the firstborn Manasseh [making to forget], For God, said he, has made me forget all my toil and hardship and all my father’s house.Isaiah 43:18-19 (ESV)
18 “Remember not the former things,
nor consider the things of old.
19 Behold, I am doing a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert.Philippians 3:13-14 (ESV)
13 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Prayer: God, You instruct us not to dwell on former things or ponder what happened long ago. I lay down my past and ask You to help me see and embrace the new thing You are doing. I want to walk in the new path You are making. Thank You for Your faithfulness. Amen
